Leave for Disaster Services Volunteers) Florida Statutes
- SHORT TITLE. This section shall be known and may be cited as the
"Florida Disaster Volunteer Leave Act."
- DEFINITION. As used in this section, the following terms shall apply:
- "State agency" means any official, officer, commission, board, authority,
council, committee or department of the executive branch of state government.
- "Disaster" includes disasters designated at level II and above in the
American National Red Cross regulations and procedures.
- LEAVE OF ABSENCE. An employee of a state agency who is certified Disaster
Services Volunteer of the American Red Cross may be granted a leave of
absence with pay for not more that 15 working days in any 12 month period
to participate in specialized disaster relief services for the American
Red Cross. Such leave of absence may be granted upon the request of the
American Red Cross and upon the approval of the employee's employing agency.
An employee granted leave under this section shall not be deemed to be
an employee of the state for purposes of workers' compensation. Leave under
this act shall be granted only for services related to disaster occurring
within the boundaries of the State of Florida.
