My undergraduate degree is in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech, MBA from the University of South Florida and my PhD.D is from Georgia State in Atlanta. I have been at Florida State University in the College of Business for 32 years (I guess I like it) and am the Jim Moran Professor of Entrepreneurship as well as the Director of Jim Moran Institute where we have gone out and helped over 4,000 entrepreneurs over the last eleven years.

I have one son who is married and works at Home Depot in the their corporate headquarters with his lovely new wife (Kim). My daughter is a state wide prosecutor in Jacksonville and her and her husband Jason have given us the most wonderful gift of a grandson Jack. I have been married to my first (and only) wife Susan for 37 years.

My hobbies include working out in the gym and quietly reading plus playing and training our wonderful black lab, Sophie.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I believe that what you do and who we are is measured by what you give to the community. The American Red Cross is one of those institutions does so much on so little money and makes a significant impact on individuals in crisis situations. I just wanted to be a part of and make a contribution to this great organization.

I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and came to the United States in 1976. My family spent a few years in Broadesville, Pennsylvania before moving to Naples, Florida. I came to Tallahassee in 1993 to attend Florida State University and decided to make Tallahassee my home. I received my B.S., in Communications and am the Communications Director for NewspaperClips.com. I’ve been with the company since the beginning in 1998. As all good dot com’s we started in a basement with some computers and a black lab (our logo). I married my best friend and boss, Jim, in 2005 in Savannah, Georgia.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I am a graduate of Florida State University. I currently serve as the Southeast Region Revenue Director for the Fortune 300 Company: First American Corp. Before joining First American Corp, I served as the Chief Financial Officer for both the Florida Home Builders Association and the Florida Home Builders Insurance Agency.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

One of my favorite quotes is from John Morley "It is not enough to do good; one must do it in the right way." I believe we all want to do good things for others, particularly following a catastrophe such as September 11 2001 or Hurricane Katrina. The Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is our conduit to ensure that our good deeds are in fact, done right.

The Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross organizes both our financial and human resources and as a result, maximizes each dollar donated and every hour volunteered. As a chapter, we are fiduciaries with our contributed resources; and as fiduciaries, we have not only provided the most compassionate service to those in need, we have blocked those who have tried to personally gain from the tragedy and generosity of others.

I originally joined the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross in high school for training for my first job - an American Red Cross certified lifeguard. I am proud to rejoin the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and use my professional training to serve as Treasure on the Board of Directors.

I have lived in Tallahassee al of my life (with the exception of a couple of months). I have one daughter, Trish who is 25 years old and lives in Pensacola and is in the commercial real estate business. I attended school in Leon County including Tallahassee Community College. For the first 14 years of my working life I was in the insurance business with Yeager Insurance, then Landrum-Yaeger Insurance. For a short period of time I was an owner of a sporting foods store here in Tallahassee. For the past 10 years I have been in the commercial real estate business.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I believe that people need to be a part of the community that they live in. I have been an active participant in the Tallahassee community since my Boy Scout days. I have been a member of the Tallahassee Lions club for 29 years. I feel the American Red Cross offers a way to give to folks in need in Tallahassee and surrounding communities like no other organization. I feel that the American Red Cross is on the front line when disaster hits and by being part of the American Red Cross it gives me the opportunity to be on the front line and help those that need help the most.

My family moved to Florida when I was seven years of age and the sunshine state has been my home ever since. I began working with my parents, Aaron and Loretta Taylor, at the age of 12 at their Western Auto Store. I now own and manage that original Western Auto Store, now called Taylor's Doit Best Building Supply Inc, in Eastpoint Florida. I enjoy swimming in my pool, dogs (especially her old friend Sport) and traveling.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

Having been a coastal resident most my my life I have seen first-hand how beneficial the American Red Cross responds during disasters to help families and communities recover. I knew I needed to be a part of such an organization.

I was born and raised in Albuquerque. After receiving a chemistry degree from the University of California at Berkeley, I had the fortune to work at places like the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Apple Computer out in California. My wife and I moved to Tallahassee in 2003 to help grow her family’s business, Golden Lighting. My next career endeavor will be with Vision 2020, a venture capital business that will invest in local start up businesses to encourage economic development.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

One of my newly discovered guiding principles is achieving a balance of community, career, family, and self-improvement. Previously, I had spent so much of my efforts on my career that I didn’t dedicate very much time to community involvement. Since moving to Tallahassee, I have fallen in love with the city’s wonderful sense of community. I want to help grow this community in areas where I can make the biggest impact, and I believe that being on the board of directors for the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross would allow me to do just that. I especially respect the American Red Cross’s core mission of taking a proactive role in educating the public with disaster preparation as well as providing much needed support when a disaster strikes. I am both honored and excited to be a part of such a great organization.

I moved to Tallahassee for college, and ended up staying! I have been in the finance industry for almost 12 years and am deeply involved in our community. Among others, I currently give time to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Rotary Youth Camp, Downtown Babies, and Tallahassee Sunset Rotary. In my spare time, I enjoy playing baseball and softball, visiting the YMCA, and socializing with friends and colleagues.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I firmly believe that giving back to others is the only way to become whole as a person - professionally, personally, spiritually, and emotionally. The way we treat those that are less fortunate is important to me, and I know that the American Red Cross believes the same - that is why I am here.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I was eight months pregnant with my second sun and being monitored for early labor when Hurricane Katrina hit. I watched in disbelief and horror at the families on television. Of course, I thought what if that happened here or to my family. When the opportunity to serve on the Capital Area Chapter's board of Directors presented itself - I knew it was time to get involved. I look forward to serving the community as part of this amazing and valuable organization.

I have worked in the Emergency Management Field since 2001. I served the Division of Emergency Management as the manager of the technical Hazards unit from 2001 until 2005. In 2004, I received the honor of being presented with the Rodney Richardson Award which recognizes exemplary service to enhance the field of Emergency Management. I worked as the Security Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation from 2005 to 2006 and currently serve as the Emergency Management Director for Wakulla County. I currently work very closely with the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and rely on them heavily to meet the Human Services needs of my community.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I joined the chapter's Board of Directors to bring an Emergency Management perspective to the local American Red Cross Board. This will hopefully allow us to better understand and serve the victims of disasters. The ARC is a very important part of Disaster Response. They play a very vital part in meeting the Human Resource needs following disasters regardless of size. Board understanding of the response and victims needs are very important to assure effective service.

My responsibility as the Public Affairs Manager for Buckeye involves coordinating the cellulose manufacturing company's community, media, and governmental relations programs. A native Floridian, I attended the University of Florida and received a degree in forest management. Prior to joining Buckeye in 1981, my career includes service as the Executive Director of the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers as well as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Forestry Association.

My community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for United Way of the Big Bend, Suwannee River Area Council Boy Scouts, and the Florida Greenways and Trails Council.

I reside in Perry with my wife, Alice.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

I support the American Red Cross because it is the premier emergency relief organization. Florida and the nation needs a robust emergency response capability, including a volunteer component. The mission of the American Red Cross - helping neighbors in need - is compelling and appealing to me.

Why I Joined The American Red Cross

My close friend, Mel Pope experienced a tragic situation, which I helped him get through. Mel was the chairman of the Capital Area Chapter's Board of Directors and invited me along with Anna Johnson to join.

The American Red Cross is a great organization, which I am proud to be a part of. I raise money for many charities, but this one is very close to my heart.
