Building Disaster Resistant Scout Troops
October 30 2004

Building Disaster Resistant Scout Troops During the Ponce De Leon District Fall Camporee of the Suwannee River Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross launched a new initiative entitled "Building Disaster Resistant Scout Troops". The initiative incorporates disaster preparedness and response activities and training based on the Capital Area Chapter's Disaster Resistant Neighborhood program and the Capital Area Citizen Corps Community Emergency Response Team training.

Designed to meet the requirements of the Boy Scouts of America's Emergency Preparedness program designed to prepare Individuals, Families and Communities for the next disaster, this initiative builds on the signed Statement of Understanding between the Suwannee River Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Capital Area Citizen Corps During the camporee scouts completed Community Emergency Response Team training and helped to prepare Disaster Resistant Neighborhood packets to be distributed to area residents by scouts.
