Since 1998 the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided home fire prevention
and safety training from its two home fire safety Fire House
trailers.
During this time over 120,000 of our chapter's youth have learned how to prevent home fires and the actions that should be taken when a home fire strikes. From traveling to area elementary schools throughout the year to attending community, church and neighborhood festivals, one of these two powerfull educational tools can be seen almost daily preparing our youth for the possibility of a home fire.
On Sunday October 22, 12 year old Alfreda Gunn became a hero when she rescued several family members
from her burning home.
Having participated in a home fire prevention program when the Fire House when it visited her elementary school, Alfreda was able to use the lessons she learned from the American Red Cross to help save family members when here home was consumed by fire.
