Home Fire Profile Each year, volunteer Disaster Action Teams from the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross answer the call of "Help Can't Wait!" by responding 24 HOURS A DAY - 7 DAYS A WEEK - 365 DAYS A YEAR to assist the victims of over 180 house fires.

Arriving at the location of the house fire within under 2 hours of notification, the members of a volunteer Disaster Action Team assesses the needs then provides financial support for the victims to purchase needed:

  • FOOD
  • CLOTHING
  • HOUSING
In addition to providing financial support to house fire victims, the Capital Area Chapter also provides:
  • COMFORT KITS
  • RECOVERY INFORMATION
  • MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING
  • REFERRALS TO OTHER AGENCIES
Individuals, schools, churches and businesses can become an important part of the Capital Area Chapter's response to house fires by making Comfort Kits or making a financial donation.

 The North District Volunteer Fire Department arrived to Extinguish the fire.

 The family dog was inside the mobile home and died due to the fire.

 All the contents of the mobile home were destroyed.

 The Howell's have no friends or family who live in the area.

 Brief Statement On Assistance Provided
 Three Comfort Kits were given to each of the family members.

 Toys were give to each of the two (2) children.

 $100 in financial assistance was provided to purchase food at Winn-Dixie.

 $390 in financial assistance was provided to purchase clothes and shotes for each family
 member at K-Mart.

 $300 in financail assistance was provided to pay for three (3) nights stay in the Best Western
 Hotel.
