Who May Enter

Any Florida student enrolled in fourth or fifth grades during the 2007 - 2008 school year.

Mailing Posters

Posters must be packed, wrapped flat and mailed to the: American Red Cross, 187 Office Plaza Drive, Tallahassee Florida 32301.

Deadline

Posters must be postmarked on or before Monday January 28th 2008 and must arrive at the American Red Cross no later than Wednesday January 30th 2008. Winners will be notified by phone.

Poster Specifications

  • Posters must be submitted on poster or illustration board.
  • The overall dimensions shall be approximately 15" x 20".
  • All artwork must be original and may be any media desired with the exception of pencil, chalk, charcoal or glitter.
  • Stenciled, traced, computer-generated or commercially manufactured stick-on lettering or graphics are prohibited.
  • All poster will become the property of the American Red Cross.
  • Posters will be judged on both the clarity of the preparedness message and the quality of the art. Posters with misspelled words will be eliminated.

Identification

The following information should appear on the back of the poster: Artist's name, age, grade, home address, telephone number and names of parents. School's name, address and telephone number along with the name of the art instructor or classroom teacher if any.

Winners

The Hazardous Weather Awareness Poster Contest prize information is as follows:

  • Category # 1: This category is for students. Each poster will be judged and ranked from all that are received from throughout Florida. The ranking will include a First Place Winner and six Regional Runner-Up Winners.
  • Category # 2: This category is for teachers whose students posters are judged and ranked as a First Place Winner or one of the six Regional Runner-Up Winners.

    • $500 Cash
    • 1 NOAA Weather Radio
    • All expense paid trip to the State Capital to mark the beginning of the 2008 Hazardous Weather Awareness Week for the winner and his/her parents.

  • Category # 2
    • $250 Cash
 Regional Runner-Up 

In addition to the above listed prizes, the First Place along with the Regional Runner-Up posters be displayed in the Rotunda of the State Capital during Florida's Hazardous Weather Awareness Week.
