A Summer Of Mastering Disasters
June & July 2004

The Members of the Capital Area Chapter's Domestic Preparedness and Response Corps (DPARC), an AmeriCorps Program, coordinated a SUMMER OF MASTERING DISASTERS activities at all of the City of Tallahassee's Parks. This effort was a partnership between the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the City of Tallahassee's Parks and Recreation Department.

Three (3) days a week DPARC Members work with young people participating in the City of Tallahassee's Summer Program to facilitate Masters of Disaster Lesson Plans and Activities. The goal of the SUMMER OF MASTERING DISASTER initiative was to provide a disaster preparedness learning environment throughout the summer of 2004.

What Is Lightning - K-2 Lesson Plan - "Balloons And Static Electricity" Activity

Domestic Preparedness and Response Corps (DPARC), Members work with five to seven year old children to conduct a Masters of Disaster balloon exercise to demonstrate what causes lightning.

Another day another City of Tallahassee Park. Gathering the young participants together, members of the Capital Area Chapter's Domestic Preparedness and Response Corps (DPARC) prepare to facilitate a Masters of Disaster thunderstorm and lightning activity.
