For the third summer, Disaster Services volunteer and paid staff from the Capital Area Chapter coordinated a series of SUMMER OF MASTERING DISASTERS activities at all of the City of Tallahassee's and City of Quincy's Parks. This effort was a partnership between the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, the City of Quincy's Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Tallahassee's Parks and Recreation Department.

Three (3) days a week the chapter's Disaster Services volunteer and paid staff worked with young people participating in the City of Quincy's and City of Tallahassee's Summer Programs to facilitate Masters of Disaster Lesson Plans and Activities. The goal of the SUMMER OF MASTERING DISASTER initiative was to provide a disaster preparedness learning environment throughout the summer of 2006.

	Lafayette Park Recreation Center - City of Tallahassee Tracking Hurricanes - 6-8 Lesson Plan - "Where Is It Going?" Activity One of the Master of Disaster activities coordinated for older participants was how to track a hurricane using latitudes and longitudes.
	A member of the chapter's Youth Disaster Services Corps explains the activity to a group of Summer Program participants at Tallahassee's Lafayette Park.
	Summer Program participants worked in small groups to track the path of major historical storms such as Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

	Jake Gather Recreation Center - City of Tallahassee A member of the chapter's Youth Disaster Services Corps reads "The 30/30 Rule - The Adventures of Rabbit, Possum and Squirrel". The story focuses on lightening safety.
