Operation Adopt A GI - The Final Phase
August 6 2003

Operation Adopt A GI began in March 2003 and for five months the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross worked with various community organizations to collect Care Package items for the soldiers fighting the war on terrorism in the middle east. During that time 573 Care Packages were prepared with a wide variety of comfort items for our soldiers. While the packages were being shipped a few at a time, the call came in on August 1 for us to ship all of the remaining Care Packages we had to the U S Army's Camp Virginia in Iraq.

Operation Adopt A GI On August 5 the process to ship the Care Packages to the soldiers in Iraq began.
Operation Adopt A GI Each package had to be thoroughly sealed, shipping labels applied and customs forms completed.
Operation Adopt A GI Sealing the package correctly was very important.
Operation Adopt A GI After the packages were sealed and labeled, next stop was for them to be weighed.
