In an effort to prepare 75 senior citizens who reside in Leon County, Operation
Senior Preparedness was coordinated by the:
Phase OneThe first phase of Operation Senior Preparedness was to distribute disaster education materials to each of the 75 seniors who had been identified to participate in the project. This was accomplished by members of the Leon County Volunteer Center's - Youth Corps riding along with the local Meals on Wheels program volunteers to distribute the disaster education materials.Phase TwoThe second phase of Operation Senior Preparedness was to assemble a Senior Disaster Supplies Kit for each of the 75 senior citizens participating in the project. On April 30 members of the Leon County Volunteer Center's - Youth Corps spent the morning at the headquarters of the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross assembling the needed kits.Phase ThreePhase three will take place on June 9 when the Senior Disaster Supplies Kits will be distributed to the 75 participating seniors. In undertaking this initiative the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, Capital Area Citizen Corps and Leon County Volunteer Center's - Youth Corps will be working to build a Disaster Resistant Neighborhood within Leon County's senior community.
