Hurricane Wilma

Disaster Services Mobile Kitchen Deployment

The chapter deployed its Disaster Services Mobile Kitchen to Key West where it prepared and served 26,239 hot meals for survivors of Hurricane Wilma along with numerous emergency workers.

Data Processing Center

To support the American Red Cross chapters throughout South Florida who were delivering services to Hurricane Wilma survivors, the Capital Area Chapter offered to establish a Data Processing Center to facilitate the data-entry for an estimated 20,000 case records.

Hurricane Wilma The offer was accepted and within a few days the Capital Area Chapter had 26 computers and the needed Disaster Services Volunteers in place to handle the work load.
Hurricane Wilma Disaster Services Volunteers in the Data Processing Center worked in shifts Monday through Saturday from 9:00AM until 9:00PM.
Hurricane Wilma When fully staffed the Data Processing Center could process 500 case records per day.
Hurricane Wilma A total of 26 computers were set up in the Data Processing Center to support the data-entry operations.

Hurricane Wilma In addition to the Disaster Services Volunteers who were facilitating the data-entry, there was a need for Disaster Services Volunteers to support everything from Logistical and Mass Care needs to managing the enormous amount of case records that came in to, was processed at, then shipped out of Data Processing Center. n

Hurricane Wilma A wide variety of computers were used in the Data Processing Center. They ranged from desk-tops to lap-tops.
